Snow Plan for Midway College
Visit the following link in the event of inclement weather http://www.midway.edu/snow-plan

Community Outreach Project:
Midway College KEA-SP will celebrate Read Across America on
February 26, 2010 at Northern Elementary in Scott County.  We need volunteers to make this a successful event. Several students have worked hard on leveling the books we already possess for this event. We need more books in order to give every child in the school a book to own. There are approximately 450 children grades P-5 in the school. A large Cat in the Hat costume has been reserved for the event. We need a volunteer to wear the Cat in the Hat costume as well as the Thing I and Thing II costumes. We also need volunteers to read to students, transport books, and set up/clean up on the day of the event. This is an annual event and those who have been involved in Read Across America can tell it you it is fun to be a reader and even more fun to see the excitement on the part of the children.

KEA-SP Tee Shirts:
New this year, we have short sleeved tee shirts in a fashionable orange color for sale at $10.00 each. These shirts are on campus in Marrs.

Clearance sale: KEA-SP Long and Warm t-shirts
Long sleeved Midway College KEA-SP tee shirts are available for sale in the Teacher Education Department on the second floor of Marrs. The shirts are brown with either pink or turquoise writing (S, M, L, XL).  The shirts originally cost $17.00, but to balance out our KEA-SP account, we are offering the remaining shirts for $7.00 per shirt (plus postage if the shirts are mailed). Limited sizes are available. Please contact acritchfield@midway.edu  or your site administrator if you want to buy one.  These shirts are an excellent way to show pride in your membership in the award winning Midway College KEA-SP! Also, we like to wear Midway apparel when we go to the schools for Read Across America.

KEA-SP Newsletter:
The KEA-SP Newsletter, latest edition is ready.  Thank you Nicole Ackerman for writing such a fine newsletter.  Please continue to submit articles, photographs, and pertinent information to her for the next edition (nackerman@midway.edu)

Upcoming Events:
Check your emails regularly for upcoming special events, checkpoint dates and other important deadlines, and professional development opportunities. The KEA-SP officers are working on PD requests and finding presenters. Several topics have been requested including math, social studies, and reading.

On April the 12th, 13th, 14th  and 15th the teachers are going to have a review for end of the year final exams given at CCMS (Carrollton Middle School).  They are in need of  “future teachers“  that would like to watch teachers teach, help students, run papers, and possibly take over for a portion of the time, so the teachers can run to the restroom etc.

The teachers are going to be teaching for four days without planning, so the students can get extra practice in their areas of need. This opportunity would be great experience for some of our “future teachers.” Midway College Teacher Education students may not be able to volunteer all day every day, but if some could commit to a whole day that would be very helpful in scheduling. Contact Lori Henderson at lhenderson@midway.edu if you are interested.
