The Teacher Education Student Handbook contains information about procedures and requirements for all steps in the process from initial coursework in education through program completion, graduation and recommendation for certification.
Student Handbook Part I: General Information provides general information, including
- expectations and learning outcomes for teacher candidates;
- criteria for the first progress checkpoint - being formally admitted as a candidate in the Teacher Education Program;
- criteria for the second progress checkpoint – being accepted for student teaching;
- contents and format for candidate portfolios; and
- scoring documents used by the Teacher Review Committee.
Student Handbook Part 2: Field Placement gives details about the
80 clock hours of field experiences in classrooms that must be completed before a candidate is eligible to student teach, along with forms used by the student:
- Request for Placement/Student Teaching (web-enabled)
- Daily Log for documenting each visit (pint form)
- End-of-Semester Total Hours documenting accumulated hours (web-enabled)
- Field Experience Evaluation where the student provides feedback to the Teacher Education Program on the experience (web-enabled)
- Field Student Assessment rating used by the supervising teacher (web-enabled)
Student Handbook Part 3: Student Teaching gives details about the student teaching experience, including
- Observation tools used by the Midway College student teacher coordinator
- Student Teacher Evaluation rating form used by the supervising teacher
- Lesson and unit plan formats
