Education and Research 

Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, Inc.

The Grayson-Jockey Club Foundation is the world’s largest private supporter of equine medical research.  It has allocated a record total of more than $1,100,000 for equine research projects in 2007. The research includes the launch of 13 new projects, continuation of eight projects entering their second year, and the Storm Cat Career Development Award.

Kentucky Equine Education Project

The Kentucky Equine Education Project (KEEP) was formed to increase awareness of the benefits of Kentucky's horse economy and to promote jobs and economic opportunities for Kentuckians through the Commonwealth's world-class horse industry.   KEEP educates the public about the benefits of the horse industry and encourages the development of a pro-jobs and economic opportunities agenda for the Kentucky horse economy.

North American Racing Academy The North American Racing Academy is the first horse racing academy in the United States.  It focuses on providing training for jockeys with a long-term goal of providing a career pathway for individuals interested in working in all aspects of the racing industry. 

The Race for Education 

The Race for Education is a national education scholarship foundation funded by various parties related to or with an interest in the Thoroughbred racing industry. It is a nonprofit organization established to improve the quality of life for young people through education, attract younger, better educated individuals to careers in the Thoroughbred industry and help establish the racing industry as a good citizen in the community. 

 

Professional and Regulatory Organizations 

American Association of Equine Practitioners 

The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of horses.  The AAEP's work includes the development and promotion of recommended practice guidelines; support for research, training and education; advocacy on behalf of the horse, veterinarians and horse owners; and providing timely distribution of information on health matters important to the equine industry. 

American Saddlebred Horse Association and American Saddlebred Registry

The American Saddlebred Horse Association is the oldest breed registry in the United States for an American breed of horse.  The association and the registry work together to safeguard the integrity of the American Saddlebred bred, to promote the use of  Saddlebreds, and to expand the public’s knowledge of America’as original pleasure and competition horse.

The Jockey Club 

The Jockey Club is the breed registry for all Thoroughbred horses in North America.  It is responsible for maintaining The American Stud Book, which includes all Thoroughbreds foaled in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico as well as Thoroughbreds imported into those countries from nations around the world that maintain similar Thoroughbred registries. 

Kentucky Dressage Association 

The Kentucky Dressage Association is a group member organization of the United States Dressage Federation and promotes the sport of dressage in Kentucky and encourages a high standard of accomplishment in dressage primarily through educational programs. Members are drawn from Kentucky and surrounding states.

United States Dressage Federation 

The USDF was established for the purpose of promoting and encouraging a high standard of accomplishment in dressage throughout the United States, primarily through educational programs.

United States Pony Clubs, Inc. 

Pony Club is one of the leading junior equestrian organizations in the world, represented throughout 30 countries.  It provides instruction and competition in English riding, horse sports, and horse management for children and young adults.

World Games 2010 Foundation, Inc.

2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

The World Equestrian Games are comprised of the world championships for eight equestrian sports - show jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, reining, vaulting, endurance and para-equestrian. The Games are held every four years, two years prior to the Olympic Games, and are governed by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI). The FEI is the international governing body of equestrian sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee. It is the organization which establishes rules and regulations for the conduct of international equestrian events.

The Blood-Horse

The Blood-Horse is a weekly trade publication devoted to international Thoroughbred racing and breeding.

The Horse 

The Horse is a monthly, all-breeds horse health magazine written for hands-on horse owners, trainers, riders, breeders, and barn managers who want to know more about taking the best care of his or her horses.

Livestock Library - Equine Resources 

The Virtual Livestock Library is maintained by the Department of Animal Science at Oklahoma State University.  The  Equine Resources page contains links on breeds, law, husbandry, general information, disease, and nutrition as well as links to publications and commercial sites.
