Celebrate women's history @ your library
Celebrate Women's History Month all month @ your library. A display is set up focusing on the achievements of women in medicine. Look for the screen saver about women in medicine on the reference computers or view it as a PowerPoint presentation on the library website. Also stop by the book display and feel free to take a bibliography and a copy of the paper A Brief History of Nursing at Midway College.
Forty Years of Nursing Accreditation at Midway College In 1968 the Nursing program at Midway College received its first accreditation. In 2008 it is still obviously an important part of Midway's curriculum. In honor of our celebration of Women in Medicine and the National League for Nursing visit to campus this month, we would like to say congratulations to all the students, staff and faculty involved in the Nursing program for forty years of accreditation.
New Databases: LexisNexis and Hoover's The library has added two new comprehensive, full-text databases to support the MBA program. LexisNexis provides access to government, news, business and legal information and Hoover's provides up-to-date information, data and news for companies and industries.
Book Signing and Lecture March 11 G. L. Gregg will be on campus to sign his latest book The Sporran and lead a discussion on the process of self-publication on Tuesday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m. in the library. In the spirit of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, The Sporran is a compilation of the first two novels of G. L. Gregg’s new series about young Jacob Boyd and his discovery of an old Scottish sporran with mysterious powers. Jacob is plunged headlong into a dangerous adventure deep in the catacombs beneath Edinburgh Castle where unseen perils await him. What is a sporran? Click here to find out.
Dr. Gregg holds the Mitch McConnell Chair in Leadership at the University of Louisville where he is also director of the McConnell Center. He is the author or editor of six non-fiction books including Patriot Sage--George Washington and the American Political Tradition. A recognized authority on leadership and the study of the American presidency, he serves on several boards of civic groups, academic publications and the United States Department of Defense.
Research Tip of the Month: Evaluating Websites Searching the internet can be a daunting task. With so much information out there, how can you tell if the websites you have found are good sources of information? By asking yourself six simple questions you can determine whether or not a website is valid, useful or just a waste of your time. Who Who created the website and who wrote the information? What are the creators qualifications? What What is it? An advertisement, article, opinion column, solicitation? When When was the page created? Is it updated regularly? Where Where is it's address .org, .net., .com, .edu, etc. Why What is the purpose of the page? To sell something? To persuade you? To inform? How Accurate is the information? Objective or biased? Are the sources cited? Is it done professionally?
Spring Break Hours—March 17-21 The library will be open 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Monday—Thursday and 8:00 a.m.-noon on Friday. Regular hours resume Sunday, March 23.
Beat Spring Break Boredom Beat back that Spring Break boredom by checking out some fiction books from our McNaughton Collection located on the first floor. Or take a book from the book exchange carousel also located on the first floor near the periodicals. You'll not only combat boredom, but reading will keep your brain in tip-top shape.
Picture Display of the 2007 Katrina Relief Trip The library also has display of photographs from the 2007 Katrina relief trip to Beaumont, Texas. This year's trip will be March 21-29 in Slidell, Louisiana.
